Hi Everyone,
I just got to Guinea yesterday after an uneventful though quite pleasant trip (except getting a little hassling at the Conakry airport when no one was there initially to pick me up). Marc Coleman was going to pick me up but he had car trouble and so had to call someone else to get me from the airport.
Even though I was used to it, it was a surprise at how everyone drives in the city. No one follows any kind of traffic rules nor does there seem to be any! Added to that there was the normal group of people walking all over the place and thick fumes from all the diesel and untuned motors! The countryside is gorgeous as the rainy season is coming to an end with lush green trees and grass everywhere.
My number one initially priority here is to learn French and some Susu. Ever since getting on the plane in Cincinatti almost all I've heard spoken is French and I didn't know as single word! Almost no one knows any English here and so unless you speak French or Susu its very difficult to communicate anything! Its exiting being in another country among people of a different culturre and I can't wait to start work tommorrow and get out to know people into the community.
Eddie
P.S. If any write I'll do my best to get a timely response.
